HARVEST POWELL OF HOPE AND HARVEST
Australian designer, Harvest Powell of Melbourne, premiered the S/S 16′ Hope and Harvest collection at NYFW Plus. In what would be described as boho-chic meets Woodstock, with a range of wrap dresses, denim skirts, and ombre’ tunics, exploring color palettes of navy and rich-colored blues, the latest Hope and Harvest collection was styled in a 70’s perfection.
Models sported over-sized glasses and head-wraps bringing a new-aged hippie appeal. When asked about the inspiration behind her latest collection Powell says:
“ I’ve called it Halcyon days because I wanted it to be really Chic since obviously we do high end chic styling, but I wanted Summer to have really a nice caravan and gypsy/ Woodstock/Bohemian vibe to it so as I am going through it (the designing process) it always evolves from where first it starts… I get half way through and I start looking at the beautiful colors of the beach and the sunsets and then mixing that with street and beautiful red brick from the middle of the city in Melbourne and then juxtaposition between that and here in NY, cause obviously most of our ladies who wear our clothes will not be at the beach everyday… I wanted to bring that really relaxed vibe through to everyday wear and make it really great for chic streetwear as well so it’s probably my most favorite collection actually… and seeing it on the stage like that tonight was just an incredible moment for me.”
